STUDIOS
NBC Studios, formally known as NBC Productions, is the in-house production subsidiary of the National Broadcasting Company. With a rich history that dates back to the 1950s and the long-running western "Bonanza," NBC Studios currently produces a full spectrum of television programs - series, miniseries, movies, specials, late-night, Saturday-morning and family programming. Under the leadership of President Ted Harbert, NBC Studios has established itself as one of the most prolific and successful television production companies in the industry. Currently, NBC Studios produces or co-produces seven primetime series, five late-night series, four Saturday-morning series, a daytime drama and numerous longform projects for the NBC Television Network. NBC Studios programs have won numerous key industry awards, including 58 Emmys. This year, programs produced or co-produced by NBC Studios received 28 primetime Emmy nominations - a single-season record for the studio. Primetime series produced by NBC Studios currently include the hit comedy "Will & Grace" (produced in association with KoMut Entertainment and Three Sisters Entertainment), the recipient of 11 Emmy nominations in 2000, and popular family drama "Providence" (with John Masius Productions). In addition, NBC Studios is producing five new series for NBC's fall 2000 schedule: the comedies "Cursed" (with Artists Television Group), "DAG" and "Tucker" (with Regency Television Productions) and the dramas "Ed" (with Worldwide Pants, Inc. and Viacom Productions) and "Titans" (with Spelling Television). NBC Studios also produces the top-rated NBC late-night series "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (with Big Dog Productions), "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" (with Broadway Video), "Saturday Night Live" (with Broadway Video and SNL Studios), "Later" and "Friday Night." For daytime drama fans, NBC Studios produces "Passions" (in association with Outpost Farms Productions), which in its second year is delivering significant across-the-board ratings gains and is the top-rated network program among female teens. NBC Studios also continues to excel in longform programming. Building on a tradition of excellence established by landmark projects such as "Peter the Great" (winner of three Emmys) and "An Early Frost" (winner of four Emmys, a Peabody Award and an International Television Movie Award), NBC Studios' wide range of movie and miniseries projects in recent years include "The '60s," Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment," "Asteroid" and "Y2K." Longform projects for the 2000-01 season include the miniseries "1st to Die" and "In His Life: The John Lennon Story" (both produced in association with Michael O'Hara), as well as "A Man in Full" (executive produced by Oscar winner Michael Douglas) and "U-238." NBC Studios is also at the forefront of another daypart - Saturday morning. In 1992, NBC created the TNBC (Teen NBC) brand on Saturday mornings and offered a block of programming for the underserved teenage audience. The network's schedule for the 2000-01 season includes three shows that are produced.in association with Peter Engel Productions: "Hang Time," "City Guys," and "One World." In addition, this season NBC will present its first Saturday-morning "dramedy," a new half-hour series called "Just Deal" (produced in association with GEP Productions and the Tom Lynch Company). All TNBC series meet the guidelines of the Children's Television Act of 1990.
